Gurpreet Singh started turning spanners at Maruti's Mathura Road service centre in 2007, a fresh ITI-Faridabad graduate making ₹4,200 a month. By 2014 he was the senior diagnostic mechanic on a 22-bay floor — but every customer he saw was being upsold by a service-advisor who had never opened a hood. So in January 2015 he took a 3-bay shed in Sector-37 Faridabad, called it Singh Auto Works, and made one rule: the owner stays on the bay floor.
Eleven years later there are still only 4 bays. We have turned away every franchise pitch. We service ~110 cars a month — about half of which are repeat customers from before we had a phone number. The receipt every customer signs has the technician's name on it (Gurpreet, Ravinder, Sukhdev, Imran). You ask us "kis ne kiya?" — we point at him.
